Lahore, October 02, 2023 (PPI-OT): US Consul General Ms. Kristin K. Hawkin visited the pavilion set by Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) at the Women Entrepreneurs’ Exhibition “WEXNET-23 to see the handicrafts prepared by the small women-entrepreneurs of Baluchistan, KP and Punjab.
Ms. Tania Buttar, Deputy General Manager Women Entrepreneurship Development Cell of SMEDA informed the guests on this occasion that SMEDA had sponsored a full-fledged pavilion comprising 10 stalls which offered business women from remote areas of Pakistan to display their products. The display facility, she said, has been provided to about 18 women free of cast just to encourage them and promote the regional handicrafts of Pakistan.
Over 18 women from D.I. Khan, Peshawar, Harripur, Quetta, Rawalpindi, DG Khan and Sargodha have been provided the stalls in SMEDA pavilion, she said adding that one of the Stall was also furnished as information Desk of SMEDA bearing information materials, publications, and SMEs facilitation services of SMEDA.
US Consul General Ms. Kristin appreciated the products displayed by women enterprises at SMEDA pavilion and observed that the products had potential to be sold in international market with a little effort.
It is notable that SMEDA pavilion has remained center of attention of the foreign and local visitors during 3-day exhibition; WEXNET-23 because of the cultural heritage of the remote areas of Pakistan displayed in a single pavilion.
Ms. Aysha Ali Naqvi, Deputy Head and Mission UAE, Mr. Mubasher Alshehri Commercial Counsellor, Saudi Arabia and Mr. Behram Yusuf Commercial Counsellor Uzbekistan also visited the pavilion and appreciated the products displayed there. The participating women entrepreneurs have thanked SMEDA management for offering them a unique opportunity of marketing their products at the largest ever women-exhibition of Pakistan.
They acknowledged that SMEDA had helped them build the capacity as well as learn modern ways of product-display and marketing that have enabled them participate in the world trade fairs and exhibitions.
