Lahore: The Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, has extended an invitation to the Executive Committee of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to visit Uzbekistan. This invitation coincides with the launch of the first direct flight from Tashkent to Lahore, an event the ambassador described as a significant milestone in the evolving relationship between the two countries.
According to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ambassador Tukhtaev expressed optimism regarding the future of bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Pakistan. He discussed the potential for collaboration in various sectors, including energy, logistics, and cultural exchanges. The ambassador emphasized simplifying visa procedures and enhancing connectivity through direct flights to facilitate regional economic integration and strengthen ties between the nations.
LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad welcomed the ambassador’s remarks and highlighted the strong diplomatic relationship shared by Pakistan and Uzbekistan for over three decades. Shad underscored the strategic importance of Uzbekistan as a partner under Pakistan’s “Vision Central Asia” policy, which aims to foster trade, investment, energy cooperation, and people-to-people connections. He pointed to the Preferential Trade Agreement and Transit Trade Agreement, signed in 2022 and 2021 respectively, as frameworks that could enhance economic ties and help achieve a $1 billion trade target.
During the event, Senior Vice President Engineer Khalid Usman emphasized the significance of initiatives such as trade delegations, single-country exhibitions, and the establishment of banking channels in further strengthening trade relations. The event was attended by several LCCI Executive Committee Members, including Khurram Lodhi, Ahsan Shahid, and others, who expressed enthusiasm for exploring new opportunities in the bilateral trade landscape.
