Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan views are sharply divided on whether parents should choose a profession for their children or let them choose it on their own; 50% favor parental choice while 50% oppose it.

There is a notable increase in views favouring the need for parental role compared to an earlier survey carried out in 2009, according to which 42% favoured this view. A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “In your opinion, what profession should the child choose, the one selected by their parents or the one they like?” Responding to this 50% believe that parents should choose the profession for their child whereas 50% believe that it should be children’s own decision.

Question: “In your opinion, what profession should the child choose, the one selected by their parents or the one they like?”
