Karachi, July 30 2013 (PPI-OT): Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Misbahuddin Farid in a letter to Managing Director SITE Limited stated that Water Mafia is stealing water from KW and SB Lines and selling it without any fear, they have placed illegal connections from main lines causing bulk lines to get damaged and causing shortage in adjoining areas. Moreover these criminal entities are destroying KW and SB system by punching through 24″ inch main line and supply would be stopped permanently therefore immediate action is inevitable in this regard.
He requested SITE Limited authorities to cancel all NOCs issued, in order to help bring all these entities down and take action against them or else KW and SB would be forced to take action. He also requested Industrialist of SITE that they should not purchase water from any other entities since they are supplying stolen water and not the boring water.
Those who are purchasing water from these entities are also responsible for this crime and they should now identify these entities understanding their moral, religious and legal duties towards KW and SB the largest and only water supply institution supplying water to more than 30 million citizens of Karachi.
M.D KW and SB in his letter said that elected members of National and Provincial Assemblies have also pointed out to this problem on several occasions that Water Mafia is stealing water from KW and SB lines and selling it, however SITE Ltd. is reluctant to take any action.
He said that we have reminded them about this several times but they have not taken any action due to reasons known only to them. On the other hand Orangi, Qasba Colony and adjoining areas, SITE Town and adjoining areas, Baldia, Sher Shah, Pak Colony, Gulbae Village, Badni Village and island areas are suffering due to water theft from 24 inch diameter main line.
These entities are selling the water stolen from KW and SB lines under the title of boring water which is injustice to the citizens. Hundred of illegal connections have been placed in the main trunk line coming from Banaras pumping station near Musarat Cinema and water is sold to Industrialist at a very high cost.
Due to this water theft supply through Banaras Pumping station is suffering badly and these entities are becoming a challenge for SITE Limited and Government. It is however SITE Limited and Concerned Authorities’ responsibility to eliminate all such entities, added KW and SB Chief.
He said that due to such entities KW and SB is going through financial crises as well, we are rapidly losing our resourced on one hand and our infrastructure has been devastatingly damaged by such water mafias and goon pushing us further down into the crises. Industrialist and SITE Limited must cooperate with KW and SB to play its moral and religious right and help KW and SB bring down these water mafias stealing water from KW and SB lines and bring them to justice once and for all.
