New Delhi: Indian aviation faced a significant security challenge on Thursday as over 70 flights across multiple airlines received bomb threats, marking a sharp increase in such incidents affecting the sector.
According to Kashmir Media Service, specific airlines impacted included Air India, Vistara, and IndiGo, each reporting threats to around 20 flights. Additionally, Akasa Air reported that 14 of its flights were targeted. This latest wave of threats brings the total to nearly 250 flights that have received similar warnings over the past 11 days.
An Akasa Air spokesperson confirmed that some of its flights operating on Thursday were among those that received security alerts. The situation has prompted heightened security measures across affected airlines and airports.
In response to the escalating threats, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu earlier this week announced the government’s intention to implement legislative measures aimed at addressing this specific type of airline security threat. These measures include potentially placing individuals who make such threats on a no-fly list, as part of a broader strategy to enhance airline safety and deter malicious actions.
