Women’s Empowerment Key to Sustainable Development: Gilani

Multan: Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has highlighted the critical role of women’s empowerment in achieving sustainable development, underscoring the essential contribution of women to society. Speaking at a wheelchair distribution ceremony in Multan, Gilani emphasized the importance of empowering women for the overall progress and sustainability of communities.

According to Radio Pakistan, Gilani specifically mentioned the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which significantly benefits numerous families by providing support to those with limited livelihood opportunities. He reiterated that BISP was launched with the primary aim of empowering women and has received international recognition, with thousands of women benefiting from its initiatives.

Gilani further elaborated on the technical component of BISP, which ensures that at least one individual from each beneficiary family is provided with employment opportunities. This approach aims to transform beneficiaries into permanent assets for their households, reducing dependency and fostering independence.
