1036 absconders arrested during 2011

Islamabad: Islamabad police have nabbed 1036 absconders involved in crime of heinous nature and also 221 gamblers during the current year in its special crackdown against outlaws, a police spokesman said here Tuesday.

Inspector General of Police Islamabad Bani Amin Khan assigned the task to all police officials to ensure arrest of proclaimed offenders and inform his office on the daily basis about success in this special crackdown.

He also directed all SDPOs and SHOs to launch massive crackdown against proclaimed offenders and court absconders. In compliance of these directions, all police stations of Islamabad Police started their renewed efforts to arrest outlaws and a total of 1036 absconders including 253 proclaimed offenders and 783 court absconders have been apprehended during this year.

According to details, City Zone arrested 67 proclaimed offenders, 167 court absconders, 75 gamblers while Saddar Zone apprehended 76 proclaimed offenders, 179 courts absconders and 64 gamblers. Similarly, Industrial Area Zone nabbed 29 proclaimed offenders, 58 court absconders and 27 gamblers while Rural Zone nabbed 81 proclaimed offenders, 379 court absconders and 55 gamblers during this year.

SSP Islamabad Muhammad Yousuf Malik has issued directions to make this campaign further effective as the performance of police stations in-charges would be further reviewed soon in this regard.

He said that no one is above the law and arrest of those being at large after their involvement in crime of heinous nature should be ensured for the safety to the lives and property of the citizens. He warned the police officials that sluggish attitude in this regard would not be tolerated.
