Pakistan elected External Auditor of United Nations Industrial Development Organization for third consecutive term

Islamabad: Mr. Muhammad Akhtar Buland Rana, Auditor General of Pakistan, has been elected as the External Auditor of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The election by consensus reflects the international community’s strong support for Pakistan and shows UNIDO’s satisfaction with the performance of Pakistan’s Auditor General, his professionalism and expertise.

The election of Pakistan for a third consecutive two-year term took place during the 14th Session of UNIDO’s General Assembly Conference held in Vienna from November 28 to December 2, 2011.

Pakistan’s candidature was endorsed by the powerful groups including G-77 and China, the Asian Group and the African Group.

It may be pertinent to mention here that UNIDO is a specialized UN Agency geared to promoting industrial development. It has a total membership of 174 countries.

Pakistan and UNIDO have a long-standing cooperation since 1968. UNIDO has implemented 141 projects in Pakistan and is presently working on 21 projects in such diverse areas as trade capacity-building, SME development, women entrepreneurship, energy and environment.
