520 booked under black law PSA in IOK

Srinagar, November 02, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, over 500 people, including a 7th class student Tajamul Rasool Mir, have been booked under black law, Public Safety Act (PSA), during the ongoing mass uprising in the territory.

520 people have been booked under draconian PSA during the last 116 days in the Kashmir Valley. They have been charged on playing a leading role in the ongoing movement, the official data said.

As per the data, the highest number of PSAs have been executed in district Baramulla (125) followed by Pulwama (79), Islamabad (59), Srinagar (56), Bandipora (46), Kupwara (44), Shopian (36), Kulgam (29), Budgam (27) and Ganderbal (19).

Among those who have been booked under the PSA are leaders and activists of political and religious organizations, students, employees, human rights defenders and few leaders of trade bodies.

Advocate Shafkat Hussain, who has pleaded most of the PSA cases from the last 25 years, told media men that the draconian law has been misused arbitrarily by the puppet administration. “Whether it is NC or the PDP, they all have been using the draconian law to suppress the voices of the people,” he said.

The draconian law allows arrests and imprisonment of a person without trial for up two years. The detainees can be kept in jail for whatever time the puppet administration desires by repeating the PSA order. The human rights group, Amnesty International, has termed the PSA as a lawless law and has advocated for its scrapping.

Meanwhile, the authorities have slapped the PSA on twelve members of leading religio-political organization, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) while as more than 40 permanent JI members have been arrested during the last 116 days.
