Administrator address seminar on Oral Cancer

Karachi, December 12, 2012 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed has said that the habit of eating gutka, pan, nuts and having sheesha in youngsters was spreading like virus and whole families in old city areas were suffering from this habit and loosing their lives which was very dangerous. He said this while addressing as a chief guest in a seminar held on oral cancer awareness week under the arrangements of Deputy Commissioner District Central.

On this occasion Deputy Commissioner District Central Dr. Saif-ur-Rehman Girami, Chief Officer Gulberg Latif Lodhi, Chief Officer New Karachi Afaq Saeed, Chief Officer North Nazimabad Amir Waqar, Chief Officer Liaquatabad Town S.M. Taha, Chairman of Private Schools Management Khalid Shah, Dr. Qaiser Sajjad and other officers were present.

He said that the export of gutka, nuts and manpoori must be stopped whereas legislation should be made to ban these products. He said that around 2 Lac people had suffered from this disease in which the ratio of women was higher.

He said the use of nuts and gutka could cause blockage of blood arteries and liver cancer. Administrator Karachi said that KMC was observing awareness week on this sensitive topic for citizens whereas three day international conference was also being held in which international experts through their research and new possibilities would inform doctors and medical experts.

Deputy Commissioner District Central Dr. Saif-ur-Rehman said that section 144 was implemented and so far 300 sellers of manpoori and gutka had been arrested above 100 FIRs were launched and thousands tons of gutka, nuts, manpoori, supari and such other products were taken under custody.

Dr. Qaiser Sajjad and Khalid Shah also spoke on the occasion afterwards an awareness walk under the supervision of Administrator Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed was arranged in which a good number of dignitaries, officers, teachers and students participated.
