Karachi, October 29, 2012 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said Karachi Metropolitan Corporation was serving the citizens by utilizing all of its available resources.
While inspecting the gutted factory building near Gulbai he said Karachi was a city of over 20million people where thousands of factories and mills located in six industrial zones that have insufficient fire extinguishing arrangements.
The city was controlled by more than 13 different organizations which creates troubles in emergency situations.
He said a modern disaster management cell was being established in the city on the directive of Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan and a net work of administrative, social and welfare organizations would work under it so that joint strategies could be adopted in case of any emergency like situation in the city. These organizations would include KMC, KPT, all towns, KESC, CAA, Pakistan Railway, Military Land Management, Edhi, Chippa, Amn Foundation and other welfare organizations.
Administrator Karachi said the establishment of such a cell would not only save the time and make it convenient to provide instant help anywhere in the city but would also save the city from huge losses due to fire or any other mishap.
He said the fire brigade took timely action and saved the affected factory and whole area from any further damage.
He appreciated the performance of fire fighters who put their own life in danger and put off the fire.
