All possible measures being taken to protect citizens from naegleria: Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation

Karachi, May 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has directed Culture Sports and Recreation Department to include a suitable quantity of chlorine in all swimming pools under KMC and change the water of swimming pool on regular basis and provide citizens with neat and clean environment to protect them from Naegleria.

Administrator Karachi said this should be ensured that swimmers while swimming in pools take with proper care and pool water should not enter in their body under this purpose precautionary measures should also be written on pools.

He said that KMC was taking all possible measures to protect citizens from this killer disease and in this connection special campaign was also being run to provide people with awareness so that protection from this dangerous disease could be ensured however he said that since the germs of this disease affect people having bath in dirty and non-standard pools and ponds therefore it was necessary to put suitable quantity of chlorine in water on these locations and cleanliness of pools should also be ensured.

He said that water samples from different areas have been taken in which chlorine quantity was being tested in this connection KMC has had continuous contact with KWSB and water board has been directed to put chlorine where necessary especially include suitable quantity of chlorine in water being provided by big pumping stations including Hub, Pipri, Gharo, New Sabzi Mandi (NEK) and along with COD National Stadium all water pumping stations whereas Health Department was directed to provide information about naegleria and take immediate actions on complains received in this regard.

He said that along with central areas kachi abadis were also being concentrated for water sampling works where possibilities of spread of naegleria germs exist. Administrator Karachi has appealed citizens to follow precautionary measures being advertised for protection from naegleria and protect yourself and your family members and we could all together establish fresh and clean environment. He said that citizens during ablution and washing face should use chlorine water whereas avoid using non-chlorine water and if symptoms appeared contact to nearest health centre immediately.
