All Stakeholders have to work for improvement of Literacy: Pir Mazhar-Our efforts will bear fruit very soon, more responsibility on today’s teachers

Karachi, September 08, 2012 (PPI-OT): Senior Minister for Education and Literacy Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq has said that the efforts of current democratic government in the sphere of Education will bear fruits very soon, and if one can not admire it, one should not try to malign the good work of the Government.

He was addressing to the seminar regarding the International Literacy Day organized by Directorate of Literacy and Non-Formal Education, Education and Literacy Department Government of Sindh here at Sindh Madarsa-tul-Islam University here on Saturday.

Pir Mazhar said that the standard of Education in old days were far better than today because of the stature of those teacher whom we remember in good words but due to the malpractices in teacher-recruitment process during previous governments today’s teacher has to strive hard to achieve the modern standards of education.

He said that one who is not sincere with his duty is not only his own but also the enemy of his nation and his generation.

Education Minister said that this government’s biggest achievement is that we have paved the way for the recruitment of teachers on merit, and for this legislation is in process so that the coming governments could not be able to undo the recruitment process on merit.

He said that celebrating this day annually is not just for making speeches but to do self- accountability as what the education department has done during the whole year and how many children were admitted in schools etc.

Senior Minister said that according to Article 25-A, it is now a fundamental right of every children aged 5-16 to get education, and it’s a collective responsibility of Government and parents. Legislation in this regard in is final stages.

He said that for higher education present government has established 23 new Degree Colleges whose construction work is going on, whereas 78 new Degree Colleges will be opened in the province very soon.

Pir Mazhar said that today sitting in this Seminar all the Officers, Teachers as well as Civil Society representatives should take pledge to play their part for the enhancement of education. Speaking to Media after the seminar he said that the Sindh Higher Education Commission Act is being sent to Chief Minister for approval and will be implemented very soon.

Dr. Muhammad Memon, Anwaar Ahmed Zai, Taj Haider, Dr. Sagar Samejo, UNESCO Sindh’s representative Mr. Roshan Chitrkaar, Ms. Saadiqa Salahuddin, Ms. Farhana Iqbal and other senior educationists also spoke at the occasion.
