APHC denounces Indian attitude towards SAR Gilani

Srinagar, February 28, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Secretary General of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Shabbir Ahmad Shah has strongly denounced the oppressive attitude of the Indian government towards Kashmiri intellectual Professor Syed Abdur Rehman Gilani terming it as a clear manifestation of political vengeance.

Shabbir Ahmad Shah, who continues to remain in police custody, in a statement issued in Srinagar condemned the arrest spree launched by the authorities in the territory. He demanded an end to human rights violations, repeal of black laws and release of all Kashmiri political prisoners.

Meanwhile, Indian secret agencies picked up around a dozen people from different areas of Shopian district, and shifted them to unknown locations. The leaders of Kashmir-based transporters addressing a press conference in Srinagar threatened a wheel-jam strike across the territory against the harassment of transporters by Hindu fanatics at various checkpoints between Indian state of Punjab and Jammu region.

Hindu extremists terrorized the Valley-based civil secretariat employees in Jammu soon after cricket match between Pakistan and India was over during the ongoing Asia cup tournament last night. They raised slogans like “One who has to stay here must say Ram Ram”.

On the other hand, hundreds of residents of different parts of Kupwara district attempted to cross the Line of Control under ‘LoC Chalo’ call in protest against the implementation of so-called food law by the Indian authorities. The participants of the march were intercepted by Indian police while they were just a few miles away from the Line of Control to get ration from Azad Kashmir.

Renowned Indian columnist and author Prem Shankar Jha, in a statement issued in New Delhi said that the hurried and surreptitious hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru by Indian government was an act that shamed all Indians. He castigated Hindu zealots for drum-beating over the slogans raised in favour of the Kashmiri martyr at a Delhi university.

The APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, addressing a meeting held in connection with the death of elder brother of Tehreek-e-Hurriyet General Secretary, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, over phone from New Delhi in Srinagar paid rich tributes to the services of the deceased for the Kashmir cause. Other Hurriyet leaders including Muhammad Yasin Malik and Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi also addressed the meeting.
