Srinagar: As the world observes United Nations Day, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has reiterated the urgent need for the UN to implement its resolutions on the Kashmir dispute, underscoring India’s continued disregard for the Security Council’s directives.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas issued a statement in Srinagar, expressing concerns over the UN’s credibility, particularly in light of its inability to resolve the longstanding Kashmir issue. “It is time for the global body to exercise its authority and implement its resolutions on Kashmir,” Minhas stated, emphasizing that the failure to resolve the dispute raises questions about the UN’s effectiveness.
Minhas noted that the UN resolutions affirm the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination through a free and fair referendum. He called for unwavering global support for Kashmiris and urged the UN to act on its commitments. “UN Day serves as a reminder that the Kashmir issue remains on the agenda despite over seven decades of inaction,” he remarked.
The APHC spokesman also criticized India’s actions since August 5, 2019, when the Modi government revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, arguing that these actions directly violate existing UN resolutions. Minhas stressed that the Kashmir dispute, one of the oldest issues on the UN Security Council’s agenda, requires immediate attention and resolution for peace and stability in South Asia.
“Resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions is vital for peace in the region,” Minhas concluded, calling for renewed international focus on the plight of the Kashmiri people.
