Army wrongly tortured Kupwara man: Police to HR body

Srinagar, May 19, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Nasrullah Khan of Devar Lolab who went missing on August 31, 2017 from a camp of Indian army was wrongly confined and severely tortured by the army with an intention to kill him. Police in a reply to a notice by the Human Rights Commission of the territory said, “It was revealed that on August 31, 2017, one Nasrullah Khan, son of Sharif Ullah Khan, went to his Behk at Trimukha Top and as usual, he proceeded to Army Camp headed by Major Nishant Gupta located at Trimukha Top to make his entry as per the procedure put in place by the Army.”

However, he was possibly taken inside the camp and was wrongfully confined there and was also severely tortured with an intention to kill him, police informed the commission. Police also revealed that on August 31, 2017 Lalpora Police Station came to know that one person, Nasrullah Khan has been brought from Trimukha Behk by the villagers of Dever in a very critical condition and has been taken to Sub divisional Hospital, Sogam, for medical treatment.

The petitioner of the case and the Chairman of International Forum of Justice (IFJ), Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, said that the Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara was also directed to ensure medical assistance to the victim.

The police also informed the commission that later on, the locals made a lot of hue and cry after which he was thrown out of the rear gate of the camp in a critically injured condition. On receiving the docket, a case was registered in Lalpora Police Station and investigation taken-up. The injured person was immediately referred to Soura Hospital in Srinagar for further treatment.
