As Eid was celebrated around the world last week, the Chinese Government joined Muslims’ celebrations throughout China

Islamabad, August 23, 2012 (PPI-OT): On the day of Eid, a special get together was hosted at the Great Hall of the People. The event was attended by Vice Premier Hui Liangyu, Vice Chairman of the National Peoples Congress (NPC) Standing Committee Mr. Siamayi, Vice Chairman of the National Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Mr. Abdurrexiti, President of the China Islamic Association and Member of the CPPCC Sheikh Hilaluddin, and Minister for Religious Affairs Wang Zuoan. says a press release received here today from Beijing.

Top office bearers of the China Islamic Association made speeches on the occasion; and names of the top Islamic enterprises and entrepreneurs were announced.

Speakers highlighted the importance of the month of Ramadan and Eid festivities and the healing touch of the Islamic faith.

Ambassadors and diplomats of Islamic countries were especially invited to the celebrations during which cultural performances were staged to depict the characteristics of different Muslim culture in China.

Ambassador Masood Khan of Pakistan attended the event.

Muslims across China celebrated Eid ul-Fitr. In northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, tens of thousands of Muslims of various ethnic minorities, including Uygur, Hui and Kazakh, went to various mosques in Urumqi for Eid prayers.

After Eid congregations were over, they visited graveyards and offered prayers for their deceased relatives. They swept cleaned the tombs and showered flower petals on the graves.

Urumqi’s public transport group provided special services for Muslims travelling to mosques and graveyards.

The local government declared Eid ul-Fitr a three-day public holiday to give Muslims sufficient time to attend to religious services and visit relatives.

In Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and other Muslim-populated regions, Muslims wore festive clothes and offered Eid prayers in large number in local mosques.
