New york: Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad has called for deeper and sustained interfaith harmony and people-to-people engagement to promote dialogue, peace, and compassion. He was speaking at the grand Interfaith Iftar Dinner in New York.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar emphasized that such engagement is essential to counter intolerance, hate, and bigotry and to advance a culture of peaceful coexistence. He highlighted how Pakistan’s heritage is marked by centuries of pluralism and coexistence, serving as a crossroads where Buddhism, Hinduism, and Sikhism flourished alongside Islam, Christianity, and other faiths.
The Permanent Representative noted that Pakistan has been recognized for advocating initiatives that foster interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence. He also pointed out that Pakistan, alongside the Philippines, jointly leads a UN General Assembly resolution focused on promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue, understanding, and cooperation for peace.
The grand Interfaith Iftar Dinner was attended by more than 500 participants, including faith leaders, diplomats, public officials, professionals, youth leaders, and community members.
