Authorities impose curfew in Pulwama town

Srinagar, December 29, 2012 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have imposed curfew in Pulwama town and its adjoining areas after forceful demonstration against the killing of two youth and destruction of a residential house by Indian troops in Bubgam area of Pulwama.

At least fifteen civilians were injured, four of them critically, when the troops resorted to indiscriminate firing on the protesters in Bubgam and Pulwama town.Witnesses told mediamen that people from Bubgam and its adjoining villages, raising anti-India and pro-liberation slogans, held demonstrations and tried to march towards the site where two youth were martyred by the troops. However, they added, the troops resorted to indiscriminate firing on the protesters, resulting in injuries to seven protesters.

“After sometime, we were rushing the injured to the district hospital when the forces again fired at us near main Chowk Pulwama, causing injuries to more civilians,” the witnesses said. The injured were shifted to district hospital Pulwama. A medico there said that 11 persons with bullet injuries were rushed to Srinagar hospitals while four persons with teargas canister injuries were being treated there.

Some of the injured were identified as Muhammad Yaseen Butt, Ashiq Ahmad Mir, Jahangir Ahmed Mir, Gowhar Ahmad Mir, Imran Butt, Showkat Ahmad Mir, Younis Ahmad Mir, Imran Ahmad and Suhail Ahmad Malik. The staff at the district hospital Pulwama said that the troops went berserk and thrashed them. “As the injured were being treated in the hospital, the troops forcibly entered the hospital and after smashing the vehicles parked at the hospital premises ransacked the hospital and thrashed the doctors, paramedical staff and nurses,” said one of the doctors.
