Ban on JKLF in IOK by Indian govt widely condemned

Srinagar, March 24, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have strongly denounced the ban on Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) led by illegally detained Muhammad Yasin Malik. The Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Such anti-Kashmir tactics will neither change the reality of Kashmir dispute nor the urgency to resolve it.”

Senior APHC leader and President of Anjuman Sharie Shian, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi in a statement strongly condemned the ban on Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) by the Indian government. While denouncing the ban on JKLF and Jamaat-e-Islami, he said such anti-Kashmir tactics would not change the reality of the Kashmir dispute.

The spokesperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM), Rifat Fatima in a statement in Srinagar said: “Such repressive tactics have failed in the past and are bound to fail now as well.” She said New Delhi is trying to stifle every voice of dissent in Kashmir. “Such voices are either crushed or jailed. The world is, however, aware of the fact that the Indian government is using its military might against the religious and political organisations in Kashmir with a sole aim to crush this pious and legal movement.”

The High Court Bar Association of the territory in a statement in Srinagar termed the material relied upon for declaring JKLF as an unlawful association farfetched and imaginary and also contrary to the well-established principles of freedom of speech and expression and association.

The Bar reiterated that peaceful demonstration is an attribute of right to free speech and assembly and a visible representation of the feelings or sentiments of an individual or a group and is permissible under international law, which governs the international relations between the communities.

“JKLF, which is seeking a peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute in accordance with aspirations of the people of Kashmir, cannot be therefore said to be indulging in activities and articulations intended to disrupt any kind of integrity of any country,” it said, adding, “It appears that it is only because of the ensuing parliamentary elections that JKLF has been declared as an unlawful association.
