BBC documentary screened in Australian Parliament during Modi’s visit

Sydney, May 26, 2023 (PPI-OT): During the recent visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Australia, a BBC documentary about the 2002 Gujarat Muslim violence was screened in the Australian Parliament. Narendra Modi was on a visit to Australia two days ago and discussed bilateral issues with his counterpart, Anthony Albanese, in Sydney and at the same time when the two prime ministers were meeting, a BBC documentary was being shown in the Australian Parliament.

Although Narendra Modi was given a strong welcome in Australia, on the other hand, he was given a huge slap on the face by showing the documentary about the Gujarat Muslim violence in Parliament. The screening of the film was organized by members of parliament and a group of human rights activists. After the screening of the film, a panel discussion was also held in which Senator Jordon Steele-John, Senator David Shoebridge, Akashi Butt, daughter of former IPS officer Sanjiv Butt and Dr Kalpana Wilson of the South Asian Solidarity Group participated.

Senator David Shoebridge said on the occasion that the BBC documentary is a glimpse of what Indians are facing from the administration. The BBC has blamed Narendra Modi for the 2002 Gujarat Muslim violence in its film and the BJP government has banned it.
