Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh attends conference of Rotary International

Karachi, March 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Zahid Kurban Alavi today attended DISCON-2013 organized by Rotary International District 3271 at a local hotel. Speaking on the occasion, the Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh lauded the efforts of Rotary International and said that there is poverty and problems of health, education, clean drinking water and social evils in most of the parts of interior Sindh. He added that the society should consider about miserable life they are facing and should think how they will be passing night without electricity and potable water.

Mr. Justice (R) Zahid Kurban Alavi said that Rotary has always been in forefront, and they should come forward to assist the needy and deprived people. Mr. Alavi said that law and order situation is improving particularly in Karachi which was worst since last many years and Caretaker government has evolved a strategy to control the situation and curb the menace for which law enforcement agencies have been directed accordingly. He said that inspite of minimum period of 3 months, the Caretaker government will fully strive to restore peace and bring the lights of Karachi back.

Caretaker Chief Minister announced that his doors at CM House are always open to common man and he will meet the people on working days daily from 11:30am to 01:30pm at CM House and everybody is welcome. Regarding role of Sindh Zakat Council, the Caretaker Chief Minister informed that there is annual budgetary allocation of Rs. 90 crores of Sindh Zakat Council and is being distributed regularly among needy, poor mustahqeen and Shib-e-nisab throughout the province. He added that 56000 people are given zakat regularly.

Mr. Justice (R) Alavi maintained that we have to bridge the gap and Rotary and Zakat Department should jointly work for help and assistance of needy people. He added that the 56000 recipients of Zakat are volunteers of Rotary International. With regard to Land Committee with the Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh maintained that being Chairman of the Committee, Secretary Finance, Secretary Law and few other members had worked in a transparent manner and have cancelled thousands of acres of land; and Committee after receiving payment as per market value had then allotted the land.

The Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh informed that an amount of Rs. 14 billion were recovered from such allotees. He added that being head of various enquiry commissions particularly the Commission of 2011 – Conducting enquiry of target killing and sectarian killings, he had presented reports on facts.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion Mr. Iqbal Qureshi, Mr. Jalaluddin Shaikh, Mr. Muhammad Faiz Kidwaie, and Past District Governor Mr. Aziz Memon highlighted the role of Rotary International in Pakistan. Mr. Aziz Memon informed that Rotary International is doing a lot for Polio-free Pakistan while efforts are ahead for provision of hand-pumps, organizing free eye camps, assistance for school, arranging open heart surgeries, provisions of clean drinking water and other health care. The function was largely attended by Rotarians, ladies and notable.
