Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa approves increase of merit scholarships for talented students

Peshawar: The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Amir Haider Khan Hoti has approved the increase of merit scholarships for the talented deserving students of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 10 to 20 numbers in Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute, Topi.

It merit to mention that GIK Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology has earned a name of higher learning, domestically and internationally and the efforts of provincial government to support students to studying in this Institute is indeed laudable. Similarly, this support is being length to only needy students in their pursue top higher education which makes its all the more appreciable. It is clarified that the course of instruction at GIK Institute extends over a period of four years.

According the provincial government awards, scholarships to 40 students at a time that is 10 scholarships in each class with a maximum financial implications of Rs. 12 million per annum at the rate of Rs. 3 lakh per student per year. As a result of increase the number of scholarships from 10 to 20, its financial implications would be Rs. 24 million from the current year 2011-12 and that too subject to no change in fees / scholarship amount. In fact the government is pursuing the basic principle in the education sector that any bonified student resident of the province, who is otherwise qualified to pursue a marketable course of study should not be deprived of pursuing it for want of financial resources at his or her disposal.

Keeping this end in view, the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has approved the number of scholarships from 10 to 20 in the GIK Institute Topi, Swabi from the year 2011-12 in order to facilitate maximum deserving students of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to get admission in the prestigious institutions.
