Chief Secretary Sindh directs Karachi Metropolitan Corporation management to launch anti dengue spray immediately

Karachi, November 02, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Chief Secretary Sindh Muhammad Siddique Memon has directed the management of K.M.C., to launch anti dengue spray immediately, for which 60 vehicles have been made available to them, while special grant of Rs.5 million for POL will also be provided to them. This he directed while presiding over a meeting regarding eradication of dengue menace from Karachi, held at his office Sindh Secretariat Karachi today.

The Program Manager Dengue Control Programme Dr. Masood Solangi briefed the meeting about dengue situation in Karachi said that as many as 1620 dengue cases have been reported till that of them three patients lost their lives. He said that isolation wards have been established and dengue kits have been supplied in each hospital of the Karachi.

However he maintained that since, peak season of the dengue is going on, so that an effective anti dengue spray campaign is essentially needed to completely control the situation. Commenting on the situation as briefed in meeting, the Chief Secretary directed the management of the KMC immediately to launch anti dengue spray in Karachi and announced special grant of Rs.5 million for POL purpose.

The Chief Secretary also directed to all Deputy Commissioners of the Karachi to visit their respective areas and get all the swimming pools closed / dried with immediate effect, put special vigilance over the tyre shops and make owners bound to keep their water tubs checked/ clean on daily basis. He directed the DCs to ensure the implementation on his directive by making personal physical surprise visit. He directed them to take severe action in case of any violation of his directives.

The Chief Secretary Sindh also directed the Deputy Commissioners not only to take action against violation if any but also to update the Program Manager Dengue Control Program, about their actions / steps and achievements. The Chief Secretary observed that care is better than cure and asked the Secretary Information Imran Atta Soomro to launch awareness campaign in the print and electronic media to educate masses so that each individual and organization to undertake preventive measures to avoid and eradicate dengue menace from the society.

The Secretary Health Muhammad Usman Chachar, Secretary Information Imran Atta Soomro, Commissioner Karachi Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Director KMC Masood Alam, PM Dengue Control Program Dr. Masood Solangi; all Deputy Commissioners of Karachi division and other officers of lined departments attended the meeting.
