Chinese envoy calls on Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control

Islamabad, January 31, 2014 (PPI-OT): Ambassador of China to Pakistan Mr. Sun Weidong called on the Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here today. The meeting discussed bilateral relations between two countries with particular reference to the close economic cooperation between China and Pakistan in light of security situation in the region.

The Minister said that both countries enjoy decades old good friendly relations and China has always been with Pakistan whenever it needed. He expressed the resolve of his government to further strengthen the relations between two countries.

With reference to the development projects in Pakistan, the Federal Minister said that Pakistan would leave no stone unturned to look after the security and well being of Chinese working in these development projects. He directed the Ministry of Interior to further strengthen the Task Force that looks after the security of foreign nationals working in Pakistan especially those of Chinese and ordered the Ministry to strictly follow the SOPs in this regard.

The Minister said the future of both countries is intertwined and they will have to remain vigilant of the elements that do not appreciate this surge in good relations between China and Pakistan. He also underlined the important role of China in regional security in post 2014 scenario.

The Ambassador appreciated the efforts of the government in establishing lasting peace in the region and extended the support of his country on the recent peace initiative taken by the Government of Pakistan in this regard. He also desired to increase cooperation between the two countries on the issues of counter-terrorism, anti drug trafficking, border management and crisis management.

In meeting the Chinese Ambassador extended the institutional support of his government for the capacity building of Civil Armed Forces and policing by means of training and learning from each other experiences. He also renewed the invitation of Minister of Public Security of China to the Interior Minister to visit China in order to further enhance the cooperation in related fields.

The Minister welcomed the institutional support of Chinese government for strengthening the Civil Armed Forces of Pakistan and also for the major development projects being carried out by China in Pakistan like Economic Corridor from Gwadar to Southern China which would usher a new era of prosperity and development in the whole region. The Minister also expressed his good wishes to the Ambassador, his government and people of China on the auspicious occasion of Chinese New Year.
