City Government removes 19572 Tonnes Garbage in 4 Days

Karachi: A total of 19,572 tonnes of garbage was shifted to city government landfill sites at Jam Chakro and Gondpass during first four days of the 15 day cleanliness drive in city. No garbage was delivered at these sites from Bin Qasim Town and neither other municipal services providers including DHA, KPT, Port Qasim and Pakistan Railway on first four days of present campaign.

According to details on the third day of campaign a total of 5237 tonnes of garbage delivered at both landfill sites of city government while on the fourth day they received 4669 tonnes of garbage from various towns of city.

City district government Karachi collected 2350 tonnes of garbage from different corridors and major roads and shifted it to Landfill sites.

Meanwhile, Works and Services Department of city government also started removing debris, banners, flags and wall chalking in city in the light of data collected in a recent survey.

Provincial minister Raza Haroon has directed town administration and city government to bring more improvement in the lifting and disposal of garbage to landfill sites.

During a visit of city with EDO MS Masood Alam and other officers he inspected some of the major drains in city including Gujjar Nullah, Orangi Nullah and Manzoor Colony Nullah.

He directed concerned officers to ensure cleaning of these drains and shifting of garbage to landfill sites before the start of rainy season.

The provincial minister strictly directed town administrators to ensure swift lifting and disposal of garbage to landfill site within their areas.

He said those towns which did not have enough machinery or vehicles should make alternate arrangements but must refrain from dumping garbage in sewage lines or storm water drains and on open places. The minister observed that ongoing cleanliness campaign had though got some improvement but still it needs more progress, therefore, he said the civic bodies should make more joint efforts so that overall sanitation condition in city could improve further.

He also directed to continue 24 hours cleanliness work at city government and town level by deputing staff on shifting basis. He also appealed to citizens to register their complaints about garbage dumping on 1339 so that immediate action could be taken on it.
