Cleanliness campaign starts in Karachi

Karachi, October 08, 2012 (PPI-OT): Cleanliness campaign in Karachi had begun today during which cleaning work in all areas of city including lifting of garbage, removal of wall chalking and banners would be carried out so that citizens on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha could see cleanliness and find a big change in the city. Rs50 million to each town was being given for the repairs of garbage lifting vehicles and for petrol and diesel whereas town with less share would be funded by KMC so that cleanliness in 18 towns of the city could be performed together.

Administrator Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed said this while addressing to a meeting held on cleanliness campaign. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi, Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan, Director General Technical Services Altaf G. Memon, Senior Director Municipal Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman, Chief Engineers of 5 Districts, Administrators and Chief Municipal Officers of 18 towns and other officers.

Administrator Karachi said that cleanliness in Karachi was stuck due to some problems which had been resolved now and funds in regard of property tax would be received from Sindh Government in next one to two days.

He said that garbage from roads along with streets and areas would be lifted and spray would be done in 18 towns as per schedule. He also said that no permission for fixing banners would be given till Eid-ul-Azha. Transport and Communication Department had been directed to put the broken signals right along with the maintenance of street lights.

On this occasion Administrator Karachi congratulated Commissioner Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi for taking charge of his post. On this occasion Commission Karachi said that cleanliness campaign would be run by KMC and District Administration together.

He also said that in the supervision of Administrator Karachi KMC with cooperation of District Administration cleanliness and improvement works in the city would be done and he ensured Administrator about cleanliness in all towns of Karachi.

On this Chief Town officers also apprised Administrator Karachi of problems facing by their areas and assured him that all the towns would perform fully in the cleanliness campaign.
