Complete shutdown observed in Islamabad town

Srinagar, June 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed in Islamabad town, today, on the 19th martyrdom anniversary of prominent Kashmiri scholar Qazi Nisar Ahmad.

All business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the road in the town. The Bar Association Islamabad boycotted the court proceedings. Call for the shutdown was given by Ummat-I-Islami.

Despite strict restrictions, the people of the area took to the streets and demanded the release of Qazi Yasir, the detained son of the martyred leader. Addressing the protest demonstrations, Hurriyet leaders Zafar Akbar Butt and Mukhtar Ahmad Waza reiterated the Kashmiris’ resolve to continue the martyrs’ mission till its logical conclusion.

On the other hand, the police arrested APHC leaders Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Muhammad Yousuf Naqash at Pampore to prevent them from visiting Islamabad to pay tributes to the prominent Kashmiri scholar. The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party in a statement condemned the arrests.

The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that New Delhi had achieved nothing except despondency and disappointment despite using all brutal tactics to suppress the ongoing Kashmir liberation movement.

An APHC delegation led by Musaddiq Aadil visited Sopore to express solidarity with the two Kashmiris, Pervez Ahmad and Mushtaq Ahmad who were recently released after serving several years in Indian jails without any crime.

Hurriyet leaders, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Yasmeen Raja, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Javed Ahmad Mir and Syed Bashir Andrabi condemned the re-arrest and the shifting of senior liberation leader, Mushtaq-ul-Islam to an unknown location by Indian police. The leaders demanded unconditional release of all political prisoners including Mushtaq-ul-Islam.

National Conference Additional General Secretary, Dr Mustafa Kamal talking to media in Srinagar said that Indian Army had committed heinous crimes in Kashmir. He said that the army was opposing revocation of draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act to cover up its unlawful activities.
