Coordination committee in IOK urges people to end protests

Srinagar, May 15, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Shia-Suni Coordination Committee (SSCC) while urging administration to conduct a thorough probe into the rape of a three-year-old girl in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district has appealed to the people to end the protests.

The SSCC at a meeting convened by its head, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in Srinagar said that gruesome act was a blot on the entire Kashmiri society and asked the administration to conduct the enquiry on fast-track basis to bring the culprit to book without any delay. Mirwaiz couldn’t attend the meeting due to health problem.

The participants of the meeting put forth their suggestions for promotion of unity and brotherhood and to thwart efforts aimed at triggering a sectarian frenzy. “We passed a five-point resolution after thorough consultations over the issue,” Itehadul Muslimeen Chief, Masroor Abbas told media after the meeting.

According to the resolution, the SSCC appealed to the people of Kashmir to remain patient and maintain calm. “We appeal the people to call off the protests and to create a peaceful atmosphere so that investigations are taken to their logical end,” the SSCC resolution read.

The resolution stated that the rape of three-year-old was a blot on the entire humanity and society of Kashmir collectively and not just for any particular group or a community as the “impression is being created by some elements”. The SSCC members expressed sympathy and solidarity with the family of the victim and prayed for her speedy recovery.

Those who attended the meeting included Maulana Masroor Abbas, Maulana Ghulam Rasool Hami, Peer Ghulam Nabi, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, Maulana Khurshid Ahmed, Maulana Ghulam Rasool Noori, Sibt-e-Shabbir Qumi, Maulana Gulzar Ahmad, Syed Yasin Moosvi, Nisar Hussain Rathar, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi and representatives of Jamiat-e-Hamdaniya and Shaheed-e-Millat Youth Forum. The Shia-Suni Coordination Committee (SSCC) was constituted to maintain sectarian harmony to frustrate Indian designs against the Kashmir’s freedom struggle.
