Corruption is pervasive in our society and government ranks but we have to stop it through drastic measures for which Sindh government is working hard: Chef Minister Sindh

Karachi, April 14, 2016 (PPI-OT):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali has said that corruption was pervasive in our society and government ranks but “we have to stop it through drastic measures but its actual solution lies in enhancing literacy ratio for which Sindh government is working hard.” This he said while presiding over a meeting of Anti-Corruption Establishment here at the CM House today. The meeting was attended by Minister for Home and Anti-Corruption Sohial Siyal, Chairman Anti-Corruption Syed Mumtaz Shah and Principal Secretary to CM Alamuddin Bullo and other concerned officers.

He said that he was working hard to stop corrupt practices in the provincial government departments. That’s why he was reviewing it progress off and on. “We have a good team in ACE led by Home Minister and it has delivered considerably,” he said. Chairman ACE Mumtaz Shah said that from January 2016 to March 31, 2016 his team made 22 surprise visits, conducted 41 raids, made nine traps and registered and arrested 82 government officials by registering 62 FIRs in nine districts of the province, including Karachi East, West, South, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur and Larkana.

He said that in the past challans were not submitted in the courts but this time the ACE has submitted 65 challans in the court during first quarter of 2016 and so far four officials, including one in South and three in Hyderabad have been convicted. The chairman ACE giving department wise details said that the 82 officers/officials arrested belong to different 28 departments.

Out of 82 officers five belong to five, nine to Home, 18 Revenue, 14 education, four food, four excise and taxation, five health, one zakat and ushr, two livestock and fisheries, one cooperative, two irrigation, each one of forest, law, Works and Services population, sports, katchi abadies and safety commission, four of Public Health engineering, five registration, two of university, one of sports.

He said that the ACE has opened inquiries against 373 inquiries against more than 400 officials/officers. The inquiries are being done by dedicated officers. On this the chief minister said that impartial inquiries should be conducted without harassing any officer. He urged Home and Inquiries Minister Sohail Siyal to personally ensure that no officers would be harassed. Mr Sohail said that he has allowed ACE to function freely. “We have adopted a non-interference policy in the ACE and it was working freely and independently that’s why it has produced good results,” he said.
