Deal signed between Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad, the Japan Institute of International Affairs

Islamabad, December 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): In a simple but dignified and impressive ceremony held at the Embassy of Pakistan Tokyo today, an MoU on Cooperation between Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad (ISSI) and The Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) was signed.

Mr. Farukh Amil, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan signed the document on behalf of ISSI whereas President and Director General, JIIA Ambassador Yoshigi Nogami signed for JIIA.

Present among the dignitaries that witnessed the Signing Ceremony were the Director General for Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in addition to Coordinator International Exchanges from the National Institute of Defence Studies (NIDS). NIDS and its counterpart in Islamabad the National Defense University (NDU) are separately considering to conclude an MoU on cooperation and exchanges between the two organizations.

Speaking on the occasion, the President and Director General JIIA noted that the JIIA was desirous to conclude the MoU with Pakistan being the most significant country in Asia with which it did not previously have any such arrangement. He observed that the MoU would assist in better comprehending and providing solutions for the regional and international challenges in 2014 and beyond.

The MoU between ISSI and JIIA takes effect immediately and foresees a wide range of mutual cooperation and exchanges between the two think-tanks.
