New Delhi: In a significant development in the Delhi Liquor Policy case, the Rouse Avenue Court has extended the judicial custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until August 8. The decision comes amid ongoing investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into alleged irregularities in the policy’s formulation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the extension was granted following arguments in court, indicating the complexity and ongoing nature of the legal proceedings against the Chief Minister. This legal setback for Kejriwal aligns with the Delhi High Court’s decision on July 17 to reserve judgment on the legality of his arrest and his application for interim bail.
Further proceedings are scheduled for July 29, when the court will hear arguments regarding Kejriwal’s request for regular bail. The Chief Minister, who appeared via video conferencing from Tihar Jail due to the expiry of his previous custody period, is represented by Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Singhvi has described Kejriwal’s arrest as an “afterthought insurance arrest,” suggesting a strategic move by the CBI.
