Dr Qasim Fakhtoo completes 25 years in prison today

Srinagar, February 05, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM) Patron, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo completed 25 years in prison, today, on February 5. Languishing in prison for the past 25 years, Dr Qasim Fakhtoo revealed that during his two-and-half decade long imprisonment, he was approached at least eight times by influential pro-India people to strike a deal and secure his release. Dr Fakhtoo was arrested in February 1993 and slapped with draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA) first, and then subsequently awarded a lifer by the Supreme Court in January 2003.”

“On February 5, 2018, I will complete 25 years in prison. During this long period of my imprisonment, I was approached at least eight times by the influential pro-India people to strike a deal and secure my release,” Dr Fakhtoo told media at a hospital in Srinagar while going for a health check-up.

The MDM patron said he was in prison because of his political belief and there was no question of entering into any sort of a compromise. “The case in which I was implicated was a move to prolong my detention. I have utilized the 25-year of my prison life to the best of my capability and didn’t allow it to go waste,” he said.

During his 25 year imprisonment, he has written more than 20 books on religious, social and political topics. “My six books are in English and 15 in Urdu,” he said. The MDM patron has done MA, M Phil and Ph D in Islamic Studies.
