Election Commission of Pakistan warmly welcomes election observers to observe elections in Pakistan: Secretary

Islamabad, May 06, 2013 (PPI-OT): “General Elections-2013 is the largest exercise in peace time as 86.1 million people will exercise the right of franchise on 11th May 2013” said the Secretary, ECP Mr. Ishtiak Ahmad Khan while talking to a Commonwealth Delegation here at the Election Commission’s Secretariat, Islamabad.

The Secretary informed the delegation that the ECP is working in collaboration with all the stakeholders to achieve the objective of conducting honest, just and credible elections in the country.

“The ECP attaches high priority to have friendly relations with international community/observers and warmly welcomes election observers to observe the elections in Pakistan” said the Secretary. For this purpose, the ECP is facilitating these observers in observing pre and post-election process and is also providing basic information to all these observers.

Furthermore, the ECP always welcomes positive observers and their suggestions are given high importance as this assist us in streamlining our future plan. Therefore, in case of observing any violation, observers are requested to bring it immediately in the notice of ECP.

Mr. Ishtiak Ahmad Khan told the participants that all decisions of the ECP have now been materialized in the best interest of the nation and after due consultation with all stakeholders. Furthermore, the ECP has achieved above 80% of the goals targeted in the Strategic Plan 2010-14.

About the ongoing law and order situation in the country, the Secretary said that the ECP has, in consultation with all the law enforcement agencies, taken all necessary steps and the Federal and Provincial Governments have several times been directed to ensure conducive environment for elections and provide maximum security to both the contesting candidates and voters.
