Employees’ old-age benefits institution urged to provide better services to workers

Karachi: Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) should expedite its efforts to provide fully facilitated benefits to the poor, deserving industrial and commercial workers as envisaged in the EOB act 1976.

This was stated by Chairman EOBI Mr Zafar Iqbal Gondal during an official meeting at EOBI House Karachi. He stressed upon the EOBI officials to provide better services to the registered workers.

Earlier Director General (Operations) South Mr. Javed Iqbal gave a comprehensive briefing about the performance of EOBI. He informed that Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) has disbursed amount of Rs.6.8 billion till February, 2012.

He further informed that during the same month EOBI has registered 576 new employers, 10931 employees and approved 2,166 new pension claims, which included 1380 old age, 34 invalidity, 591 survivors and 161 old age grants claims. There are 83,740 employers and 4,876,373 insured persons have been registered since the inception of EOB Scheme and numbers of beneficiaries have reached to 427,082.

He also informed that the EOBI has collected Rs 755 million as EOB contribution from the registered employers and employees during the same month.

EOBI has started disbursement of pension through Easypaisa which is another step towards providing convenience to aged and respectable pensioners. The Chairman EOBI Mr. Zafar Iqbal Gondal said through Easypaisa, we aim to make lives easier for our old age, disabled and widow pensioners.

EOBI has requested to its pensioners to register themselves at the nearest Telenor franchise, Telenor sales and service centres or Tameer Micro Finance Bank branch along with their EOBI pension book and original CNIC. Once registered, they can withdraw pension from 16,000 Easypaisa outlets across Pakistan.

The meeting was attended among others Mr. Najm-ul-Saqib Siddiqui DG (F and A), Mr. Muhammad Hanif DG (HR), Mr. Parvaiz Ahmed DG( Audit) and Mr. Ayaz Ahmed Uqaili PD(IT).
