EU diplomats expected in IOK on Monday

Srinagar, September 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): A high-profile delegation comprising ambassadors hailing from European Union (EU) is expected to embark on a two-day visit to occupied Kashmir from Monday.

Preparations were on for the past several months to meticulously plan the high-profile visit and the required security paraphernalia has been place for the same, reported the Jammu-based daily, Excelsior.

“The delegation will comprise nine Ambassadors from EU countries and one Ambassador of the European Union (EU) mission in India and the objective of the delegation would be to have ground assessment of the situation”, the paper said quoting its sources.

Surprisingly, “the EU delegation is unlikely to hold interaction with” Hurriyet leaders from Kashmir Valley “as they were unhappy with the latter’s stiff opposition to the recently-held concert of the world renowned music conductor Zubin Mehta at Shalimar Gardens in the summer capital,” the paper added.

However, the pro-freedom circles have downplayed the visit, saying it would have no significance as far as the Kashmir dispute is concerned, because the visit has been planned and scheduled by the Indian Home Ministry according to the Delhi’s agenda.
