Extension in deadline of filing of Income Tax Returns urged – Sheikh Khalid Tawab (S.I)

Karachi, October 31, 2016 (PPI-OT): Sheikh Khalid Tawab (S.I), Senior Vice President (SVP), Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has urged the Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Nisar Muhammad Khan to extend the deadline for filing of Income Tax Returns (ITR) from 31st October to 30th November, 2016.

He argued that a large number of business community members could not file their ITR mainly due to a variety of reasons such as uncertainty prevailing in the country because of a political party’s announcement of Sit-in (Dharna) for indefinite period of time, slowdown of normal business activities; Election of FPCCI member trade bodies; cumbersome and defective on-line system of e-filing of ITR etc.

The SVP of FPCCI elaborated that the IRIS – a FBR’s portal – that allows on-line submission of refund claims had not been functioning since August 2016 to date, resulting linking-problems in filing of tax returns / refund claims. “This will help the tax payers in discharging their tax liability well in time without penalty on the one hand and increase in government exchequer on the other hand”, he added.
