Kashmiri-Origin Barrister Appointed as Judge in UK Judiciary

The legal community in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, has celebrated the appointment of Kashmiri-origin Barrister Azhar Iqbal as a judge in the British judiciary. The announcement was particularly significant as it marks the first time a Kashmiri-origin individual has been appointed to such a position. According to Kashmir Media Service, during a special session of the District Bar Association (DBA) Mirpur AJK, where newly-elected office bearers gathered, praises were showered upon Barrister Iqbal for his professional prowess and contribution to the legal field. DBA President Ch Shakeel Zaman and other members like Sardar Muhammad Shakeel Khan and Ch Muhammad Bashir Tabassum expressed immense pride in this milestone, which reflects positively on the Kashmiri community. The DBA office bearers also expressed hopes that this appointment would serve as a platform for the Kashmiri Diaspora in the UK to advocate more vigorously for the resolution of the Kashmir issue and to bring international attention to the
ongoing Indian atrocities in the region.
