Fact-Checker Zubair Charged in Uttar Pradesh for Sharing Controversial Video

New Delhi: Mohammad Zubair, co-founder of Alt-News, faces a new legal challenge in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, where he was booked for posting a video of Hindu priest Yati Narsinghanand, who made blasphemous remarks. The case against Zubair has stirred controversy as no actions have been taken against the priest.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the FIR was lodged by Udita Tyagi, General Secretary of the Yati Narsimahanand Saraswati Foundation. Tyagi claims Zubair’s October 3 video of Narsinghanand was intended to “provoke violence by Muslims against him”. The case has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), aimed at promoting enmity between different groups on religious grounds.

The incident has heightened tensions, with significant protests by Muslims outside the Dasna Devi temple in Ghaziabad, reacting to the inflammatory comments made by Narsinghanand. This is not the first instance of Zubair facing legal or social repercussions for his fact-checking work, which often challenges misinformation in religious and social contexts.
