Finance Minister terms successful review of IMF agreement as significant achievement

Caretaker Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar has termed the successful review of the IMF staff level agreement as a significant achievement for Pakistan.

Chairing a meeting of Donor Coordination Committee in Islamabad on Tuesday, she emphasized government’s commitment to macroeconomic adjustment and welcomed ongoing support from development partners.

The Minister expected GDP growth between 2 to 2.5 percent in next fiscal year, up from 0.5 percent during current fiscal year, which is a positive sign of economic recovery.

Dr Shamshad Akhtar said the government is actively pursuing reforms in fiscal consolidation, monetary policy, currency market sustainability, energy, business environment, and social safety nets.

The Minister expressed gratitude for the support received from the development partners.

She emphasized timely disbursement and efficient transactions for devastating flood affected areas in Sindh and Balochistan to effectively address challenges.
