Former interlocutor defends unmogip’s presence in Delhi

New Delhi, July 15, 2014 (PPI-OT): Former interlocutor and Chief Information Commissioner M.M. Ansari has said that UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) will remain relevant till UN resolutions on Kashmir are in the book of records and the issue is resolved.

M.M.Ansari in a media interview in New Delhi said that the Group had only been asked by New Delhi to vacate government accommodation while the “office still exists in India, which is a proof that that shifting UN Observers office from one place to another will have no implications on Kashmir issue.”

“The relevance of UN Military Observers in India should be debated. They have been asked after six decades to vacate government accommodation. They have not been treated as persona no grata nor have they been directed to leave the country. What message India wants to convey and to whom,” Ansari said.

M. M. Ansari who was part of the three-member interlocutors team that visited Kashmir soon after 2010 unrest said that the order of the government to vacate the office premises of UNMOGIP was equal to running away from the reality. “Both India and Pakistan are the signatories to the 18 resolutions passed in UN over Kashmir issue,” he added.
