Four Dead, 13 Injured in Kishtwar Road Accident

Jammu: Four people were killed and 13 others injured in a traffic accident in the Kishtwar district of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir due to poor road conditions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the accident took place when a vehicle carrying employees of an under-construction power project company veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge in the Dangdoor area of Kishtwar. Among the injured, two individuals are reported to be in critical condition. The deceased have been identified as Zubair Ahmad, Arsalan, and Bilal Ahmad, while the fourth victim’s identity remains unconfirmed.

In a separate incident, a forest guard named Abdul Fafar Sohil died after falling from a mountain in the Banihal district. Additionally, a 50-year-old man, Mohammad Shafi, was allegedly attacked with acid in the Shahjimarg area of Pulwama district.

Traffic accidents are frequent in the region, largely due to poor road conditions, overloading, and inadequate traffic management. In recent months, several fatal accidents have occurred, particularly in the hilly areas like Kishtwar, Doda, and Ramban, where roads are narrow and poorly maintained. Last month, a bus carrying pilgrims overturned in the Reasi district, killing eight and injuring dozens. Another incident involved a passenger vehicle plunging into a gorge in Poonch, resulting in six fatalities.

These accidents challenge the development claims of the Modi administration in the occupied territory.
