Gilani Describes Senate as Guardian of Constitutional Balance

Islamabad: Acting President and Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has emphasized that devolution is not a threat to national cohesion but one of its strongest safeguards. He made these remarks during the concluding session of the Islamabad Devolution Summit in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani highlighted the importance of a confident federation that empowers its constituent units while staying united by shared constitutional values. He pointed out that authority exercised closer to the people enhances democratic participation, addresses grievances at an early stage, and strengthens trust in democratic institutions.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani reaffirmed the Senate’s dedication to promoting cooperative federalism, provincial equity, and effective devolution. He described the upper house as a guardian of constitutional balance and a platform for dialogue among federating units.
