Srinagar, May 28, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has welcomed the European Parliament’s resolution against the secret execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru by India in Delhi’s Tihar jail on February 9, this year.
Syed Ali Gilani in an open letter addressed to the European Parliament reiterated the Kashmiris’ demand for settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions.
He said that the chances of restoration of peace and tranquillity in the region were bleak until the dispute was settled as per the wishes and aspirations of the people.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been demanding the implementation of UN resolutions since 1947 for resolving the Kashmir issue but on one or the other pretext Indian government and its political leadership are showing indifferent attitude towards implementing these resolutions,” he added.
The veteran leader also conveyed his gratitude to the European Parliament members for evincing interest in the resolution of the Kashmir conflict. “It is your moral responsibility also to avail the opportunity to impress upon India and Pakistan for lasting settlement of the Kashmir issue as per the UN resolutions.
While reaffirming his stand, Syed Ali Gilani made it clear that “If any other proposal other than the UN resolutions in any way is applied through pressure or might, the people of Jammu and Kashmir won’t accept it.”
