Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa appreciates hosting of International Conference on Orthopedics

Peshawar, November 25, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Eng.Shaukatullah Khan has said that in our age science is rapidly advancing and whosoever not keeping pace with these advancements and not up-to-date in knowledge and information stands fade out.

Inaugurating the 27th International Pak OrthoCon 2013 in Islamabad on Thursday evening he said that such conferences offer efficient forums to share and up-to-date knowledge; exchange experiences and enable the participants to thoroughly discuss various issues and arrive at practicable solutions.

He said that like many other fields we are living at a watershed moment in medical science as well. The elaboration of human genome has created a revolution in medicine that is equivalent to the revolution in physics that occurred in “the early part of 20th century”.

Welcoming the delegates of the Conference who include world prominent and highly acclaimed researchers and practitioners in the field of Orthopedics from all over the world, the Middle East, Europe, North and South America, South Asia and above all India he also hoped that during their stay they will enjoy Pakistani cuisine, with its exotic and rich flavors.

The Governor appreciated these delegates for taking the pain to travel all the way to attend this moot. He pointed out that Pakistan holds a strategic location as an entry point to Europe and Asia and being situated in the Greater Middle East and South Asia, Pakistan is bordered by the Arabian Sea coast, the Himalayas mountain valleys and the Indus River.

The history of science and technology in the Indian Subcontinent began with prehistoric human activity at Mehrgarh, in the present day Pakistan and continued through the Indus Valley Civilization to early states and empires.

The Governor KP said that though our region is passing through a very critical phase of its history by witnessing “very unfortunate incidents” some natural and some manmade which badly affected very large populations lately but expressed the confidence that though unpleasant but it is a temporary phenomena and would soon fade away.

He also lauded the conducting of record number of pre-conference workshops by renowned faculty and participated in by equally enthusiastic practitioners, the credit of which goes to the Organizing committee of the conference. The Governor hoped that Pak Orthicon and Pakistan Orthopedic Association will continue its tradition of arranging such annual conference and the stage bigger and bigger in future.

Earlier World renowned surgeon, researcher and teacher in the field of cardiothoracic and peripheral vascular surgery and professor emeritus University of Toledo, Dr. Dr. Sayed Amjad Hussain, who was also the guest of honour on the occasion delivered a succinct but comprehensive and thought provoking presentation on the history of medicine where a parallel was drawn between music and medicine which was listened to with a pin drop silence by the hundreds of audience have jam packed the Sheesh Mahal Hall of Sarina Islamabad.

The Governor KP also appreciated the said presentation and gave away shields both to those with outstanding performance in the field of orthopedics and the organizers of the Orthicon.

It is worth mentioning that the Peshawar Chapter of Pakistan Orthopedics Association has organized the Pak Orthicon 2013 and the International conference of Orthopedics which will continue to November 22-24 but due to the problem of accommodating such a large number of experts from all over the world it has been hosted in Islamabad.
