Govt will launch Radio School to impart education to students in wake of coronavirus, NA told

Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood says the government is planning to launch Radio School to impart education to students in wake of coronavirus pandemic.

Participating in the discussion on the situation arising out of COVID-19 pandemic in the National Assembly on Wednesday, he said the government has already launched Tele School, which is educating students of various classes from eight in the morning till six in the evening. He said we have taken all decisions in consultation with provinces and other stakeholders regarding closure of schools and cancellation of board exams.

The Minister said the government took precautionary measures like imposing lockdown and closure of educational institutions, marriage halls, and transport to prevent spread of the pandemic. He said efforts are also being made to support downtrodden and poor people, whose employments have adversely affected due to lockdown.

Shahida Rehmani of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal called upon the parliament to evolve a comprehensive strategy to face the challenge of COVID-19. She emphasized on giving agriculture sector more focus to avoid food shortage in the country by taking advantage of reduced petroleum prices in the international market.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz said Corona pandemic is the biggest challenge of the country as 19 percent of suspected cases are resulting positive. He said a unified national strategy is need of the hour to contain spread of the coronavirus. He urged the government to declare wearing of mask as compulsory, before coming out. He said testing capacity needs to be enhanced and the government should focus in this direction.

Salahuddin of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan appreciated the federal government for turning complete lockdown into smart lockdown to protect economy and daily-wage earners, who had been suffering a lot due to restrictions on movements and closure of businesses.

Pakistan People’s Party leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said his party is ready to extend every kind of cooperation in fighting Coronavirus pandemic. He said protecting human lives should be kept supreme. He demanded of the government to pass maximum relief of reduced oil prices in the international market on the people.
