Guangdong’s Documentaries on the “Belt and Road”, Showing South China Culture Features

GUANGZHOU, China, May 16, 2017 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/ —

Guangdong launched two quality documentaries The Maritime Silk Road Impression and Retrace the Maritime Silk Road at the important moment of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, demonstrating its series of exploration and innovation along the Road.

Recently, Shen Haixiong, head of the Publicity Department of Guangdong, visited Guangdong Radio and Television and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions with the front-line reporters and documentary producers at South China Documentary, the production base of the above-mentioned documentaries.

Shen stressed that the great “Belt and Road” Initiative fully demonstrates President Xi’s diplomatic thinking and global governance concept, which embodies the broad-mindedness and profound vision as the leader of China. Guangdong is an important hub of the Maritime Silk Road, the latter of which then serves as the topic of these two documentaries. With one focusing on the history, and the other on the reality, the documentaries tell stories of the past and the present of the Maritime Silk Road and Guangdong’s series of exploration and innovation along the Road.

Guangdong, being the most developed province and with the largest population in the country, its cultural soft power should match its economic strength, said Shen Haixiong. Currently, in the field of documentary, Guangdong has already got a good foundation and the potential to further develop and lead the way.

Historically speaking, there have already been a number of outstanding journalists and documentary producers in Guangdong, said Shen, as this year marks the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the South China Documentary, we should applaud their staff. He called for the successful organization of the “South China Documentary Seminar” as a cultivation platform and the action to foster a number of contemporary documentary masters, produce a number of masterpieces, and spare no pains to create several phenomenological documentaries.

It is said, the works of south China Documentary are focusing more on social reality, combining features of East and West, narrating and recording in a more delicate and humane manner, in line with the characteristics of Canton Culture: diversified, open and innovative. They are also in the pursuit of being closer to life.
