Islamabad, August 09, 2015 (PPI-OT): The new premises of the Consulate of Pakistan in Birmingham will be inaugurated on the Independence Day, 14th August 2015 at 1700 hrs. H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, High Commissioner for Pakistan to the UK will unveil the plaque of the new building in the presence of Lords, MPs, Mayors, Councillors, community members and media.
Upon taking charge of his duties less than a year ago, the High Commissioner resolved to address the demand of the community. That demand is now all set to be fulfilled on the auspicious occasion of the Independence Day. After quarter of a century, the Consulate will relocate to a new building with all the modern facilities. It is a historic moment both for the community as well as the Government of Pakistan.
It is hoped that the new Consulate will address the logistical problems faced by the expatriate community regarding the services that were being extended from the old office. It will also be a source of pride for the community. The new premises which will open to public from Monday, 17 August 2015 is situated at 10A, The Wharf, Bridge Street B1 2JS. Located in the heart of the city and easily accessible from M5, M6 and M42 motorways, the new building is convenient to access for the city dwellers as well as those from far off cities.
The new building is located in the most modern commercial locality befitting for a Consulate office. With three storeys, it has a total area of around 7,000 sq ft and all the facilities that a modern office is expected to offer to the public have been provided. The new office has ample car parking, reliable elevator service, access and proper facilities for the disabled and visitors.
The new building also provides baby change facility on the ground floor. A modern community hall with a seating capacity of around 240 persons is equipped with modern audio-visual facilities. In order to minimize overcrowding in one place, various services have been distributed on ground and first floor. NADRA and Attestation departments are located on the ground floor with a seating capacity or around 120 while Passport and Visa departments are located on the first floor with same seating capacity.
Moreover, the procedures have also been simplified where possible to minimize hassle for the public. The new building has sufficient capacity to restructure and reorganize internally according to the demands of the future. Leased from Birmingham City Council, it took approximately two months to complete the renovation and internal redesigning of the building.
There was genuine need for a modern Consulate building in Birmingham with an expatriate population of over 400,000 in the Midlands and Wales—the catchment area of the Consulate—the existing office had inadequate facilities for the community. It may be noted that all those who have their MRP/NADRA appointments on or after 17 August should come to the new building at the aforementioned address on date and time already given to them.
