IHK civil society demands release of political prisoners

Srinagar, May 16, 2013 (PPI-OT): The civil society of occupied Kashmir has demanded immediate and unconditional release of all illegally detained Kashmiri Hurriyet leaders languishing in different jails of India and the occupied territory.

The Kashmiri Civil Society Group after the conclusion of a two-day seminar by Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation in a joint statement issued in Srinagar said that after the attacks on Sarbajeet Singh in Kot Lakhpat jail, Lahore, and Sanaullah in Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu, the prisoners were feeling unsafe and insecure.

It said that the killing of Sarbajeet Singh and Sanaullah had further created uncertainty and tense between the two countries. He said that Pakistan and India should take serious and solid steps for safety of prisoners of each other’s country.

The statement expressed serious concern over the slapping of draconian Public Safety Act on Kashmiri teenagers. It also denounced the harassment of Kashmiris living in different states of India in connection with their business or studies by Indian police and secret agencies.

The seminar was participated among others by Bashir Ahmad Dar, Professor Dr Hameeda Nayeem, Professor Gul Muhammad Wani, Zuhruddin, Shujat Bokhari, Khurram Pervez, Haji Yasin Khan, Zahoor Ahmad , Iqbal Tramboo, Ashiq Hussain, Arjumand Hussain Talib, Riaz Wani, Anal Sori, Zafar Chaudhry, Samiullah and Dr Siddique Wah.
