Srinagar, March 06, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Indian authorities, today, imposed curfew and strict restrictions in Srinagar, Baramulla, Sopore, Pulwama, Shopian and other parts of the Kashmir Valley to prevent people from protesting against the killing of a university student by Indian troops.
The student, Tahir Ahmad Sofi was shot dead, yesterday, by troops during a protest demonstration in Baramulla town against the killing of the Kashmiri research scholar, Mudassir Kamran Malla in Indian city of Hyderabad Deccan.
Indian paramilitary forces and police personnel were deployed in strength, all major roads were blocked and internet services were suspended across the Valley to thwart anti-India protests. People, however, defying restrictions came out of their houses in different areas of Srinagar and protested against Indian state terrorism. During demonstrations, people raised Pakistan’s national flags.
Police also barged into the houses and ransacked household goods. Clashes were reported between police and demonstrators from different parts of the Valley.
The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, Syed Agha Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi and other Hurriyet leaders and organizations including Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Zafar Akbar Butt, Bashir Ahmad Butt, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Aasiya Andrabi, Yasmeen Raja, Javed Ahmad Mir, Muhammad Azam Inqilabi, Jamaat-e-Islami, Democratic Freedom Party, Peoples Freedom League and Jammu and Kashmir National Front condemned the killing of the student.
In Geneva, speakers at a seminar organized by the World Muslim Congress said that India violated international norms and standards by secretly hanging Muhammad Afzal Guru in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
Besides UN Special Rapporteur, Alfred de Zayas a large number of people including Kashmiri leaders, Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl and Syed Faiz Naqshbandi addressed the seminar. Sardar Amjad Yousuf hosted the function.
A Delhi-based well-known Indian social activist and Supreme Court lawyer, Prashant Bhushan in a media interview urging New Delhi to urgently resolve the Kashmir dispute, said that no Kashmiri was safe in any part of India as communal forces were ruling the country.
